what to do when your dog is an asshole.

Since we brought Remi home, our "grandpa" dog Cletus has become an absolute asshole.  I thought "Hey we went threw this with Sugar, he will adjust."  And yes while it took him a while to accept her he didn't CONSTANTLY bark.  He isn't even biting or attacking, he just runs all up in Remi's junk barking, barking, barking.  Even Remi has gotten to the point where he is like "Dude, sit the hell down and SHUT UP!"  He just keeps walking, ignoring grandpa and his constant barking.  I wonder if his barking is like a human grandparents rendition of  "in my day" stories.
"In my day we didn't have a porch to run out on to, we had to be happy with a window"
So I have come to some ideas of what to do when your dog is an asshole.

1)Do the regular NO!  Bad Dog!  And when he ignores you like he inevitably will move on to step 2.

2)Spray him with water and say NO! Again, he will be absolutely un-phased by this method but he will smell like wet dog, so I suggest mixing a little dog shampoo in.  Proceed to step 3.

3)Lock him in his crate as a punishment.  But of course right now is when your puppy will decide he needs to be a little ass too.  So he will prance up and back in front of asshole grandpa dog and cause grandpa to be angry and punished thus increasing his asshole-ness.

4)  Last resort, and what is probably gonna be the most painful but effective.  Let them deal with it themselves.  I say stock up on Tylenol and turn up your TV and let grandpa and young whippersnapper go at it while maternal and indifferent matriarch sits by and watches.  She doesn't get involved, just probably rolls her eyes and wishes there was doggie wine.  Eventually stuff calms down, everyone naps, and the cycle starts over.

So if you find your dog is being an asshole there isn't much you can do.  An Asshole dog is the same as a human one.  Let him be, he will learn his lesson when some kicks his ass or he tires out and needs to refuel his anger.

Welcome Home Remy

Today we brought home Remi, he is our third, yes, third dachshund .  He is so stinking cute.  Squish likes to remind me that he was over priced.  But I say you cant put a price on puppy breath.  Sugar and Cletus want to eat him, well either eat him or make him submit to them.  But him submitting means a lot of biting and ouchy and crying.  I know it is going to take time and it's an adjustment period.  I've been threw this rodeo a few times already, not counting what it was like growing up with a bazillion animals.  But it still upsets me every time they nip him.
